Effort Required To Build Big vs. Small Companies

There’s a saying I’ve seen mentioned a few times over the past couple of years that was brought up again in a recent @venturehacks tweet.

“It’s just as hard to build a large company as it is a small company, so you might as well build a big company. It’s roughly the same effort.”

My Top Music Artists of 2010

I’m a little late on this as it’s been a rough draft waiting to be posted for a long time, but I’ve always enjoyed seeing people’s year in music roundup posts, so why not do my own? It’ll either be great to have people mock my taste in music, or perhaps I can turn you on to a new artist and make your day.

I’m Going to Run a Half-Marathon

Steve PrefontaineI’ve been a sporadic exerciser over the past 10 years as it’s always a challenge to find consistent time with demanding jobs and family. I’ve gone through stretches of working out consistently 3-4 times per week, and other times where it’s been hard to get in two workouts.

Regardless, in all of that time it’s been working out just for the sake of being healthy and trying to not gain weight. I’ve missed having specific athletic performance and competitive goals in mind like when I was working out hard playing high school basketball.

There was always a clear mission, and the workouts had a competitive purpose.

Partially inspired by my wife completing a half-marathon last year, I’ve decided to join her in training for the Eugene half-marathon in May. It should be an interesting challenge as some bone chips in my feet have always caused enough pain to keep me limited to running 6 or so miles at once in the past.

I’ve decided to stop using that as an excuse and figure out a way around it through the right shoes, orthotics, or just fighting through the pain and complete a half-marathon.

Since I’m challenging myself professionally right now by starting up GuideMe, why not challenge myself physically as well? Any advice is appreciated!
