Unfortunately I haven't followed Netflix as a company that closely so I don't really have any insight or opinion on the issues you raise.

From the sound of the article it appears that Netflix is already using certain elements that teams have come up with, and I think they'd probably be crazy to not use a better recommendation engine if a team comes up with one.

But, I'm an outsider with no details...</description>

They wrote the book on shilling, spyware, and hacking Web sites.  The truth is Netflix's million dollar contest for a better search engine is a PR stunt.</description>
