Moving to a Vista Machine is a Bit Painful

I haven’t been posting much over the last week, and that’s mainly because my time at home on the computer is being spent moving from my old machine to a new Dell Dimension Desktop with Vista as the operating system.

First let me say that Vista is nice. It feels smoother, looks better, and has some nice features. However, I’ve still spent five nights moving data, installing new applications, reconfiguring applications, troubleshooting, rebooting, and more. In this day and age can’t we make it any easier to upgrade from one operating system to the other?

    This is exactly why I put off upgrading my desktop OS as long as possible. I used Windows 98 until 2003 and I am still running Windows 2000.

    I feel your pain, Pat!! Last week my Windows XP system (a 2002 Toshiba laptop) experienced some major OS glitches. After flailing around for several days trying to save it (fortunately I had a pretty good backup of data), I decided to get a Vista machine. It has been painful, to say the least. I totally agree with Andrew Johnson. I would not have switched had the system continued to run properly. Too much work just to get things back to normal!

    I switched to Vista a few months back and it took me a solid three days (two of those being weekend days that I used virtually the entire day) to get everything up and running.

    I have to say though, I am very pleased with Vista’s interface and ultimately glad I made the switch. Although there are a few things that still bother me about Vista and a few glitches I think it’s definitely a better product than XP.
