Dan Rather is far removed from reality. Proof being his recent outlandish lawsuit against CBS after he is well into retirement. He's upset that he's out in the pasture and nobody is interested in what he says. He's never been a bastion on reporting of unbiased news. The mainstay of his reporting in recent years has been based on his views, not unbiased factual reporting of both sides of issues.

Thanks for live-blogging this Pat. I really enjoyed Dan's talk.

I don't think Jane really answered Dan's question. I DO think that political blogs are splintering us apart into our own little echo chambers and we're missing the common denominator that an evening news anchorman such as Dan Rather gave us. It may have been a simpler time with less variety but at least we all had a common reference point from which to ground ourselves.

I think that was why the room gave him a standing ovation - in a way, we miss him.
