Pat, I prefer a subscription like this:

http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch_feeds?hl=en&scoring=d&q=%22conversionrater%22&ie=utf-8&num=10&output=rss

don't worry I don't subscribe to that ;) That way you get not only links but also mentions. Then you can also subscribe to something like this:

http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch_feeds?hl=en&scoring=d&q=%22conversion+rater%22&ie=utf-8&num=10&output=rss

to pick up more mentions, not always links but mentions which is important as not everyone talking about you links back!

Most people ping you if they are referring to you

You can also use Google alerts on blog search

If someone edits a post and isn't running a plugin to prevent a ping on update, you will get things being refreshed all the time.

Maybe just subscribe to the RSS feed from Technorati by email for a permanent record

I don't seem to have that problem with Google Reader. The only quirk I notice with Google Reader is that the comments feed into my RSS feeds so every comment comes in as well. But that isn't for every RSS feed I have.
