I don't think the change to propeller has had any negative effect on rankings. I still see numerous Propeller Tag pages in the SERPs.

What I have noticed is that the tag pages on Propeller only archive a post under a particular tag for 30 days. Posts used to stay on tag pages indefinitely or until the page was full.

I think this change will have a greater effect than the change to Propeller in general. For each page that was posted to Netscape in the past you could tag the article with as many as 5 keyword phrases.

It had the effect of creating 5 relevant links from a trusted source.

You can still have that effect for 30 days, but it now disappears with time.

Great post. You have a great summary of the different sites at the end.

Now that Netscape has ditched the social bookmarking under the netscape.com domain and moved to propeller.com (PR N/A), is anyone seeing a reduction in rankings?

This could be a good opportunity for Digg to get into the Google Onebox. They ought to see if they can strike up a partnership. I could see benefit for both organizations. Google providing relevant, popular current event results and Digg getting more traffic.

Agreed Patrick, I'm surprised more people don't talk about this as a benefit.

I recently set up my typepad blog to allow people to submit posts to digg and netscape. I noticed within a few days that my most recent post was indexed by google and placed at number 3, preceeded only by the netscape entry for the same post. From all of the reading I have done recently on SEO, I'm surprised that this isn't mentioned more often.

Your insights on this issue have been inlightening, keep up the good work

Hi , this was interesting. Your comment

"as publishers learn about the value they can get from having their articles submitted to these sites, Digg and Netscape will get more submissions while other sites won’t."

hits it on the spot.

I've been doing some blogging on social networking and Web2.0 business models, drivers and strategic frameworks - early days yet, but you've given me some ideas for more.

Best wishes.
