Yes it does help. If you report by page when dealing with adsense CPC's, you are getting an accurate view. really the difference is between CPC and CPM ads. If you are serving CPC ads you want to have a page eCPM, if you are serving CPM's then you need to have a per ad eCPM. Even if you have multiple CPC ads on the same page, if you click on one you leave the page. The value that needs to be compared between a CPC page with multiple units and a CPM page with multiple uniits is eCPM. eCPM for CPC page would be revenue/pageviews*1000 and eCPM for CPM page would be revenue/pageviews*ads per page*1000. The place where it is hard is when you have multiple different ad unit types per page.

Does that all sound right?

Yeah, I know about the ad unit reporting, but it's not the default that they show. It takes a tlittle digging to get there.

I've already talked to about five Adsense publishers who all didn't realize that Page eCPM was different from eCPM.

And what good reason is there to report it by Page eCPM? Does it help?

Click on "Advanced Reports", then click the "Show data by" drop down and select "Individual Ad Unit."

I'm not sure I agree. I read Google's explanation of eCPM and never got that impression. You can also change the reporting to "by ad unit" instead of by page. I guess I'll have to go back and read the definition over.
