Axosoft performed an experiment to test if they could use the blogosphere to grow their userbase and contribute to a good cause by selling copies of their software for $5 and donating the proceeds to the American Red Cross.
I won’t go into the details, but it’s a great example of what a good blog placement can do and what happens once you start showing up on blogs and it snowballs.
I’m sure outlining the process they went through is going to give them another wave of publicity. Smart companies are going to start to take advantage and plan promotions like this, it will be interesting to see how top bloggers like Scoble handle all the requests they’re getting. I know they’re getting requests to talk about products or sites now, but when examples like the Axosoft case are publicized, I’m sure the amount of requests Scoble is getting will go up.
