A recent article in Clickz points out that there are new focused social networking players coming to the scene like SisterWoman.com. I’ve been thinking for months now that while Myspace is a huge success, I thought it’s too vast and that there is a nice niche future for entrepreneurs who create more focused social networking sites.
For example, Myspace doesn’t really hold much interest for me because it’s just so large. I’d be much more interested in using a “web professionals” social networking community site where I was interacting and making relationships with like-minded professionals.
I think this holds true for all kinds of professions and hobbies. If I took Wakeboarder.com which is basically a Web 1.0 content site and turned it into a wakeboarding-focused social networking site, it’d probably do quite well in the wakeboarding space.
If you’re an entreprenuer looking for a site idea, think about a social networking site for your profession or hobby. There’s probably an opportunity for you there.
