What Are Blog Networks Using For Ad Serving and Optimization

January 5th, 2006

There are quite a few networks now, even a blog about blog networks.

With another one soon moving into doing advertising for it’s blogs, I’m left wondering what all the blog networks are doing to manage and optimize their advertising across their blogs.

Are people coding their own ad servers? Manually optimizing? Using something like phpadsnew?

Yield Manager is built to power ad networks, so naturally I think it’s a good fit. I may be biased, but I also have experience in operating an ad network for multiple sites. If you’re a blog network who is doing advertising, feel free to drop me an email. It’s an interesting space right now, I’d love to discuss it.

The new 9rules advertising network is being built (kinda like everything else nowadays) via a lot of custom application development and coding, and some integrated open source applications to help with some aspects. Can’t say much more right now, but it’s definitely a nice piece of software :)

Sounds nice Mike, what type of features will it support? Is 9Rules going to be actively pitching advertisers?

I can’t talk much about the features, but yup, 9rules will be working with advertisers to both advertise on our site as well as our members if they choose to have ads. We’re n00bs when it comes to advertising and media purchases however, so we’ve made some nice connections in the big media and advertising community that will help us out tremendously. We’ll let the ad stuff be handled by ad people, while we continue to better the experience for our members.

That’s a solid strategy to make good connections. Feel free to ping me anytime you guys have questions. I’d also be willing to talk to you guys about working with Yield Manager and what we’ve got going on in some capacity. I like working with companies doing cool things. :-)
