Can somebody help me in knowing about, if a company wants it to be acquired. What should we do, how do we announce that we are ready to sell ourselves, etc. This company is in India, Bangalore into profssional Services and you all know well that Bangalore's mid and small size companies are being acquired EVERY HOUR.

Regards,
Himmath

You did of course hear that Mark Zuckerburg was offered some where around $100 Million last year, right...and turned them down commenting that he could get much more in a couple years.

I am inclined to believe this. I am not so sure that Mark will agree to give it up this year, though... I do think it's possible, but I think it might end up waiting a year or two.

Hi Steve, thanks for the comments.

- I'm not sure Facebook allowing embedded video is a reason they wouldn't be acquired. Would it help their popularity? It might, but that doesn't mean they aren't valuable. It could also add that functionality in a heartbeat if need be.

- Outlook releasing RSS will change the lay of the land, but Microsoft has competitors. Not everyone is an Outlook user.

- Reddit and DIgg are easy to copy, but userbases are valuable. del.icio.us is a prime example. There are other social bookmarking services, many of which have more features and technology, it was the userbase, community, and reputation that made it the one that got acquired.

Some of your predictions I would disagree with. First and foremost, facebook does not allow for embedded video players on their site. Only myspace, friendster, and ebay allow users to do this. Now onto RSS aggregators. I want to see the lay of the land when the new Outlook with RSS integration is released. These RSS Aggregators will definitely feel the pain and RSS will be commoditized to a point that many of these sites will no longer be attractive.

Reddit and DIGG are cool websites. I particularly like reddit more than I do DIGG, but either way, a company will only buy their "userbase" and not the underlying idea. As Reddit once had a link to someone who wrote the entire REDDIT website in under an hour, so these two websites are highly imitable. No real barriers to entry.

Tagworld is a great concept but their website has too much going on at once. Plus it's slow and prone to crashing, at least my experience with them.

Now in regards to your other predictions, let's just see how they play out

I've seen waaay too many of these predictions for 2006 acquisitions. Can you link to your 2005 predictions so i can see how accurate they were? Did anyone predict the flickr acquisition?
