One of the another important metric is "exit page", where from visitor leave the page. By analysis this page, you can improve the page and remove the the cause of exit.

I think google analytics shoud have the option of tracking more than just 5 page throuh their option of inserting 5 links. After all 5 pages for a site having 100 pages cannot be important.

Hi Robbin,

You're absolutely right. I was thinking more along the lines of a general goal, and primarily in an advertising world where page views matter. I've seen plenty of situations where more page views per visitor doesn't help an ecommerce site.

As a web analytics junkie, I love seeing posts like this. However, I don't totally agree with your point #1, Increase Page Views per Visit.

It is usually true that visitors to e-commerce sites who look at more pages convert better. But it is not necessarily true that the extra page views cause the increased conversion -- perhaps the visitor has a propensity to purchase and therefore looks around a little more. I would call this a "lurking variable" if I were a statistician.

Furthermore, e-commerce sites who try to cross-sell too much, and send their customers to new pages at the checkout stage may get higher page views but lower conversion. Asking the customer to leave the shopping cart to do anything other than "continue shopping" can be a mistake.

Of course, if you are making money based on advertising views, then go for it!
